Denim vests are not just something more than a cardigan and less than a shirt. They are a bad-ass staple item for your closet – totally a decision piece that can add simple spice to an outfit or turn you into a grunge-punk god or goddess.
Kristian Battell (above) used her light weight denim vest and ankle socks to transition a summer maxi skirt into a flowy fall favorite. Put a long sleeved, lightweight sweater under that vest with some boots and you’ve got a cute, anything but boring, winter outfit.
Denim vests are also easy to spruce up or even make. Below was once a preppy Abercrombie jacket, now it is an edgy vest created in minutes by cutting off the sleeves with your average household scissors and hot gluing a gold star stud on the collar.
This original distressed denim look fits in perfect with the frayed sleeves left by the scissors!
Now this vest is perfect for the night life – pair it with black high waisted shorts over tights or knee high socks, boots and you are all set for your next concert or get some day time wear by wearing it over a too-cutsey dress and tights. I love my denim vests because it’s like a safety blanket – it always spices up a bland outfit without making you feel like you’ve put on too much.
I have a few more denim DIY i’ll share throughout the week!
